All of the newer models of the Nissan Altima, including the 2015, use timing chains now. Timing chains are definitely preferable as they don't require the same kind of maintenance that a timing belt does and they are typically much longer lasting. The chain will be lubricated by Your engine oil so it's important to make sure to use the correct engine oil and go with a premium oil if You want to be on the safe side. Make sure You change Your oil at the proper intervals to keep things running smooth because if the chain dries out it's more likely to be damaged and that can be a costly repair. Following that basic maintenance can protect the chain and hopefully it should be able to last for the entire lifespan of Your engine. -

All engine options on the 2015 Nissan Altima use a timing chain. In fact, all Nissan Altimas since 2002 have used timing chains on all their engine options.
