All variations of the 2015 Subaru Impreza -- including the WRX -- use a timing chain, as opposed to a belt. While there are advantages and disadvantages to each piece of equipment, most automotive experts agree that a timing chain is preferable to have, if for no reason other than longevity and maintenance costs. A timing chain is thought to be good for about 250,000 to 300,000 miles -- likely as long, if not longer, than the lifetime of Your Impreza. Contrast that with a timing belt, which needs to be replaced every 75,000 to 100,000 miles. It's possible that You'd go througH3-4 timing belts over the course of Your vehicle's life. Watch out though, because if Your Impreza's chain does catastrophically fail, You could be looking at a repair bill of upwards of $3,000, not including any engine damage that the failure caused.
