The 2016 Honda CR-V comes equipped with a timing chain instead of a timing belt. The chain is designed to last the life of the vehicle, and as a metal part, by default, is more durable. Also because it operates from inside rather than outside the engine, it doesn't suffer from cracking or drying out like belts do. They can improve fuel economy as well. Most belts need replacing between 60,000-100,000 miles. The Honda's timing chain should remain maintenance free. Occasionally chains break, which can have catastrophic results for the engine. If You're finding metal shavings in the oil, experiencing mIS Fires or hearing a rattling noise while idling, make sure to get those issues checked out by a reliable shop.

Every Honda CR-V that was manufactured froM2002 to 2017 comes with a timing chain instead of a belt regardless of the engine that's in it. This is good news for the most part because many consider the chains to be the superior part between the two. While the chain is definitely stronger and lasts longer, it does have the downside of being more expensive to fix than belt if something does go wrong. The cost of parts and labor to replace a timing chain may be in the $1,500 to $2,000 range. You can do Your part in keeping the chain functioning properly by changing Your oil regularly so it stays well lubricated. -

The 2016 Honda CRV has a timing chain. Unlike the timing belt, this chain is meant to last for the life of the engine.

These answers are so untrustworthy as to deem them useless. Chain? Belt? Paper? Worthless.
