The 2016 Toyota Highlander has a timing chain on the engine. A timing chain is a better option than a belt because it will not need to be replaced. One of the most expensive pieces of regular maintenance that You would have to do is the timing belt replacement and that will need to be done every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. A timing chain should usually last over 300,000 miles without servicing. I recommend that You still check Your timing chain at least once a year. You will want to make sure that the chain is not loose and that is is free from any signs of debris.

The 2016 Toyota Highlander has a timing chain. Unlike the timing belt, this chain is meant to last for the life of the engine.

Sounds like a lot of work and expense just to check timing chain. Glad it’s not a belt!!
