Some of the reported problems on the 2017 Ford Explorer 2.3 EcoBoost engine date back to 2015. This one is used in vehicles like the Ford Explorer and some Ford Focus models. There have been reported issues with the smell of coolant in the exhaust, loss of heat in the cabin, and overheating engines. This is all caused by the wrong cylinder head gasket being used. The cylinder head gasket was designed for the Ford Mustang, and not the Ford Focus RS. There was also a problem in the 2.3 EcoBoost engines with carbon buildup on the back of the inlet valves in the walls of the inlet. This could end up restricting airflow and preventing the valve from completely closing the way it's supposed to.

These are some of the reported problems on the 2017 ford explorer 2.3 Ecoboost: engine dying while driving, acceleration lags, engine does not turn over and complete engine failure.

I have a 2017 Ford Explorer with a 2.3 Ecoboost and have been experiencing repeated problems with cylinder 3 misfires. Come to find out I have the same problem as other Ford owners with an Ecoboost, the coolant fluid is leaking into cylinder 3! But my vehicle is not listed on the class action lawsuit as an acceptable model so I guess I am screwed??? Going back to Dodge as quickly as I can!

I have the same issue as MJ Hermann. Have taken excellent care of my 2017 Explorer with the 2.3 Ecoboost. Cylinder 3 misfires because of coolant fluid leaking into the cylinder. Dealer says that I need a new long block. The motor had under 100,000 miles on it. Does anyone have any other information about this. Email me at Kelly.byrd53@gmail.com
