The 2017 HyundaiAccent comes equipped with a timing chain rather than a timing belt. The Accent has been using a timing chain since 2013 and in-fact all Hyundai engines having been using a timing chain since the year 2013. I think the main reason why a car would use a timing chain these days is that they require less maintenance than a timing belt. Timing belts usually need to be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles but chains usually don't need to be changed unless there is massive failure with it. The reasons why timing chains usually don't need to be replaced is because they are located in the engine and receive lubrication from engine oil unlike the belt which is outside of the engine and is exposed causing wear to it.
