This may depend on the year that Your vehicle was manufactured as well as the engine that is in it but I believe that every Equinox froM2010 to 2017 with either A4Cylinder or V6 engine has a timing chain. This may be good news to You as You won't have to worry about a rubber belt wearing down and having to replace it at set intervals. Your chain is a much more durable part and made of metal so it's built to last a very long time as long as You keep up with Your regular oil changes to keep it well lubricated. -

My 2015 Equinox LTZ with the 6 Cyl has three chains. One primary and two secondary chains. The chains will wear and stretch over time and the tensioners and guides will wear down. According to GM these chains are meant to last the life of the car but I would change them along with the guides, tensioners and the oil pump between 75,000 and 80,000 miles. The oil pump is driven by the primary timing chain and has a chain guide built in to it that wears down. You are looking at around $1500.

It more than $1500.00 it will be probably $2000.00-$2200.00, it didn't hurt the rest of the motor!

I have a 2015 EquinoxLT and the mechanic just called and said my timing BELT broke. He said is a belt not chain.Either my engine isn't the original or some 2015s have rubber belts in some. Either way it'sbeen a pain because it's listed as having a chain.. I called them back to double check and they sayit's a rubber belt :(.I guessthat'sgood news.Ughh
