Whether or not You have a timing belt or timing chain will depend on the year of Your vehicle but the majority of them do use a timing chain. The exceptions to this are the 2002-2009 Sorento with a 3.5 L Sigma V6 and the 2010-2014 with the 2.7L Mu V6 LPG engine which use belts. If You do have one of the models with a chain then You're in luck as they're not going to require as much maintenance as the belts and they're less likely to wear down and break over time. Keep in mind that if You've got a belt that You should have it replaced every 60,000 miles or so. -

The Kia Sorento is equipped with a timing chain and will last the life of the engine.

The Sorrento has a timing chain. Better in my opinion. But, like a belt, a chain can wear and break. They can be noisy too.

Depends on which generation/engine you're running. My 2005 3.5L by is running a timing belt NOT a chain, newer models I believe run chains now
