There are not any widespread reports of problems with the climate control system in the Ford Explorer. Like all vehicles there are things that can go wrong with the climate control system though. The most common thing that will fail in the climate control system is the blower motor. This is what moves the air around in the cabin of Your car and since it is used a lot it can wear out and may need to be replaced. Other common issues can include freon leaks which reduce the vehicle's ability to cool down. A thermostat problem can also lead to the vehicle not being able to heat up because the warm coolant won't make it to the heater core.

Not an answer but confirmation. 2018 Explorer is randomly turning rear climate control on especially at quick stops or changing settings

When using the heater or air conditioner, the ford explorer with automatic climate control may be having a problem with frequent changes in fan speed. Usually, the fan speed varies only to maintain a specified temperature, but there is an issue with the fan speed control mechanism when the fan speed changes constantly and in needlessly.
