The gas pump shutting off prematurely and the gas nozzle getting stuck in the capless fuel tank are the most common problems that have been reported by owners of the Ford Focus. These capless fillers usually have special instructions on a sticker applied to the inside of the gas door. The procedure is simple but important enough to warrant instructions. The instructions are pretty simple. Release the pump trigger when full. Wait 5 seconds. Pull the pump nozzle out of the filler.Ford added capless fuel filler technology called Easy Fuel to most of its cars starting in 2008. It's a Ford exclusive technology that eliminates the fuel filler cap.The idea is designed to simplify fill-ups, reduce emissions (evaporating gasoline), reduce incidents of using the wrong type of fuel, and protect vehicles from theft.

The ford focus capless fuel filler has been reported to cause a check engine light, even when a problem isn't apparent.

Every single time I get diesel for my ford focus the pump nozzle gets stuck in my capless fuel tank. I only got the car about 3 months ago and I'm new to the capless system. But on the gas flap it says to enter at an angle and wait 10 seconds after filling to release. Even following these instructions it would get stuck. After researching online it seems the issue might be the nozzle itself, but I've been to several stations and it happens every time. It eventually comes out with enough wiggling and tugging but I'm sure that would eventually cause damage. I still have not found a solution and I am too nervous to get Diesel without having someone with me to help when it gets stuck.

To go in the 'easy filler' orifice so I have to use the plastic funnel. That however provides no way of telling how full the tank is.
