The Ford Focus ST comes equipped with a timing belt instead of a timing chain. Most belts need replacing between 60,000-100,000 miles. A chain, by comparison, is designed to last the life of the vehicle, and as a metal part, by default, is more durable. Ford recommends having the Focus' belt serviced at 125,000 miles or 120 months, but this interval can be affected by driving habits and conditions. Because it operates from outside rather than inside the engine, it can suffer from cracking or drying out unlike a maintenance-free chain. Signs of belt failure include a no-start, experiencing mIS Fires, hearing a ticking noise while idling or witnessing oil leaks from the front off the engine.
Does'nt it do your head in when people give you information they aint got a clue about ? . The MK3 / 3.5 Focus ST has a TIMING CHAIN , not a belt. Bloody know it alls !!
