A certain number of Ranger vehicles equipped with the 2.0L Bi-Turbo engine and 10-speed transmission may experience the failure of transmission fluid pump gears. This can cause the loss of hydraulic fluid pressure in the transmission and result in a transmission malfunction and a loss of drive. Ford issued a recall that affects 15,924 MY2017-2019 Ford Ranger vehicles built between December 19, 2017, and October 15, 2019. Its understood that vehicles built since those dates have been rectified, which involves new engine and transmission software. Ford id immediately recalling all affected vehicles with customers to update the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software which will address the issue.

I have had nothing but trouble with my 2019 Wildtrack 2 litre Bi-turbo. A number of times each day I will go to take off and it take 4 to 5 seconds to accelerate after putting my foot completely down. Oil change and service light is constantly on and each time they say we have updated the software but still happens. It has been in and out of the dealership over time and now going to ask them to buy back. Has anyone else had problems with major lag when taking off?

My 2.0 Bi Turbo Ranger has been an utter nightmare, it spends most of its time in the dealership. In the last 12 months it has had 4 new Ad Blue sensors, each time resulting in it being off the road. Last Friday the vehicle had another sensor and 24 hours later went technical again! It has now been in the dealership for 4 days and I am now waiting for a new wiring loom. The 10 speed transmission regularly fails and leaves me without drive. All in all a piece of junk, and I can't wait to get rid of the vehicle.

I HAVE PURCHASED A FORD RANGER XLT 2020. THE OIL LIGHT CONTINUALLY TELLS ME TO CHANGE OIL EVEN A FEW THOUSAND AFTER ITS SERVICE. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM FORD ADVISED ME THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE 2.0 BI TURBO ENGINE. HE SAYS YOU NOW NEED TO GET IT SERVICED EVERY 8-10000 KMS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE GETS THIS PROBLEM I FEEL LIKE SELLING IT AND MOVING ON TO AN ISUZU. I AM GOING TO PURSUE THE MATTER FURTHER. APPARENTLY FORD NOW POSSES A TECH DATA SHEET EXPLAINING THIS ISSUE. I WILL TRY AND OBTAIN ONE FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHT ANYONE OUT THERE.

We purchased a used 2019 Ranger 2.0L bi-turbo in February 2022, within 500 miles we were concerned as the vehicle didn't feel right so took it to Trust Ford Epsom. They topped it up with oil and did a module update on the gearbox, this made absolutely no difference so we sent it back and once again there was no real change. During the 2 visits the vehicle was still in warranty and we were assured there was no fault and not to worry. Within 1000 miles and the warranty expiring the vehicle broke down and we were advised that the vehicle required a new engine & turbo, This was at 36,000 miles! Their write up was: ‘engine cranks but doesn't fire found fault code P0341 camshaft out of range, inlet camshaft not turning, when cranking engine doesn't sound like it has compression. Further investigation found compression blowing indicating valves stuck open. Suggesting engine at fault.’ This followed after a quote of almost £10K. After reaching out to Ford customer services and explaining that we reported the fault during our warranty their position was that as the previous owner had exceeded their recommended service interval by 3000 miles (even though it was still at the 12 month interval) they would not contribute a single penny towards the repair. This tells you everything you need to know about these engines. You should expect to put a new engine in your ranger at 36,000 miles if you do not follow their service advice to the letter. Clearly the engines are so fragile for this to be the case. Based on our experience with Ford and their inability to accept any responsibility for a faulty vehicle they manufactured we will no longer be purchasing Ford vehicles and will be taking this further with the Motor Ombudsman.

2019 Raptor still going strong 130000kms so far, I've had none of the issues above, Trans was part of recall still no issues, small oil weep on timing cover, replaced under warranty, brakes work out quite fast, replaced with upgraded DBA rotors & pads, DP chipped 185kw 600nm, never let me down or stopped, always serviced earlier then recommended, been the best vehicle I've ever owned, transmission been great serviced at 95k, not all rangers are lemons, ps ford don't service my ranger, mmm...

I bought the Ford thunder 2.0 Bi turbo on the 18 November2020 brand new at Motus Ford Germiston . Since I have bought the car is been in and out of the dealer before it get to 24000 km. I took it in for low pressure oil 3 times until the dealer suggested to do the major service. I drove for couple of days the car cut of on N6 due to engine problems, while I was in vication with my family. The road side assistance never pitched up I had to organise myself transport to East London and book my self in for the night since I had minor child in the car. I was the told that the car engine was damaged and needed to be replaced. I was left with no car with lots of bags. I ended up arranging my own transport through Avis. I continued with my holiday trip. Once I got to Gauteng I called the dealer to ask for the loaned car , I was taken to pillar to post. At the end Ford SA intervene but the lend me single cab Bakkie even though I had big family. The car is now back with the dealer it’s been 2 weeks 5 days today nothing is yet done , now the Germiston Ford Motus want their loaned car. They have told me I can take the issue of my car with ford SA since they can’t do the repairs. As the issue come from the poor workmanship from the installation of the Engine that was done by Ford Queenstown kelston. I have written email to Ford SA till to date no response ref:_00D1r1GluM._5005q9q6Zv I have been waiting for the call. What make me angry is that I am now been forced to use the Ford Ecosport that is very heavy on fuel and it’s manual , where’s I am expected to honour my monthly instalment that is way above the one I am been accommodated with at this time.

Issue still on going and Ford refused to offer me a payback so I’m having to seek legal advice. It sat at the dealership for 2 months and came back with nothing wrong, I have to turn the car off at most intersections as no acceleration on the pedal when going to take off. It’s a piece of s**t. Do not go near the 2.0 litre Bi Turbo!

Took my ford ranger in for its first MOT with 70k on the clock, its failed the chap said cheerily, the brakes apparently, and guess what, its out of warranty, I replied Oh the same brakes I complained about to you on its 50k service... £600.00 + later get it back and 2 miles down the road EML comes on, turn round and its the transmission not communicating, don't worry cheery says it just needs resetting reset and fair enough got 4 miles this time. Sorry mate your going to have to take it to a specialist., Great aren't they.

I have a 2021 November FX4MAX. 2l bi-turbo. Im at 82000ks. Ive had it services every 15k at ford Ringwood. At first around 7500k it would have used all oil life. It has gotten worse as we have gone. This time 4000k after 75000k service 0% oil life left. Spanner is on dash. And car is gutless. Every time i have spoken to ford they say oh they may not have reset it blah blah blah. $71000 lemon. I have emailed Ford about this. No help. They give you a generic response.

I'm having the same issue as Gavin which is where the vehicle intermittently has a delay with the foot flat, Gavin, was this issue resolved as its been sitting at the Ford dealership for 4 days so far with no resolve, they want to drive the vehicle with the diagnostics plugged in with this issue occurs, this is going to be tough as its intermittent. BTW, the shudder really shits me off, Ford have had it back numerous times and eventually sheared the shocker stud off, they blamed the shudder on the suspension upgrade even after they had the vehicle in with the issue when it was 10k in standard trim.

MyRanger 19 blew engine at 8K’s. Ford replaced the car for me but this one also is giving me some issues after every service a spanner sows up on the dash board, in a rain and windy day the alarm goes off all the time and the Ute is blowing black smoke!🥺

I have a 2020 Ranger Raptor that spent last Christmas in service yard after going into limp mode. Just happened last Wednesday again and now at another FORD service yard. Been there 1 week and not even looked at it. First time lots of engine ‘idiot’ lights, this time nothing. FORD not very helpful to say the least! Seriously looking at swapping to a Hi-Lux, as touring Australia soon and need reliability not excuses!!!

Just bought new 2022 ranger raptor. Here in Costa Rica they only cost 78k usd. (That’s not a typo) She has only 2000km on the clock, had her for about 3 weeks. Today while driving home, normal mode in 2-wheel drive…. Car suddenly looses power and then stall. When I start her up again, she starts no problem but the car then shakes violently and stalls a few seconds later.
