Having hard starting problems with the Ford Ranger 3.0 TDCI engine isn't unheard of. In fact, there's a pretty common reason for this, and that's a failing fuel pump. The symptoms here are that Your engine turns over fine, but takeS3-4 seconds before it fires up, and it's worse when the engine's cold. If You turn the key enough to prime the fuel pump, turn it back off, and turn it on again, the engine fires up normally. If that's the case, You'll probably do well to replace the pump. Autozone sells the Delphi Gasoline Fuel Pump, part CFD0029, which should be compatible with Your Ranger, for around $96.

Ford ranger 3.0 Tdci's experiences hard starts due to fuel pump issues. You may have to have your fuel pump replaced if the car turns over several seconds before firing the engine.

Hey Antonio, Don't know if you sorted this or still have the car but the issue will be the fuel pressure limiting valve in the end of the fuel rail. Relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.
