The most common problem with the diesel pump in a Ford Ranger is usually caused by the pump failing. Fuel pumps can fail over time, and diesel is a bit harsher on a pump than regular gasoline so it can wear out over time as well. Usually You will notice that the engine fails to start when there is a problem with the pump. If the pump begins to fail while You are driving You also may notice a decrease in engine power and it could also stall if it completely loses fuel pressure. To change the pump You will need to access the top of the fuel tank to remove it and that usually involves lowering the tank from the straps that hold it in place under the truck.

The ford ranger diesel pump problems are fuel pump failure and poor fuel economy.
