The Ford Ranger has an optional transmission cooler available for it. In general You should have a transmission cooler installed when You have an automatic transmission and You plan on towing with the vehicle. When You do tow things with Your truck a lot of strain is put on the transmission. This can result in the gears and the oil inside of it getting hot and that can lead to the potential for damage inside the transmission. With a cooler installed You can mitigate this risk by helping to keep the gears and oil from overheating. It definitely is a good thing to have installed as well if You plan on takeng Your truck long distances at highway speeds.

The transmission cooler comes standard in all ranger models, so it does use a transmission cooler

The Ranger does not have a transmission cooler. It only uses a heat exchanger which is not a cooler, as Greg mentioned. The difference between the two are simple; the cooler ‘cools’ and has greater efficiency at reducing temperature. The exchanger will heat the oil and keep it close to the ‘same’ temperature as the water coolant circulating within the engine, this is less efficient and will not cool the oil. Any Ranger will benefit greatly from an oil cooler, overheated or burnt oil will deteriorate the mechanical internals and destroy the transmission.

The Ranger has a heat exchanger that does cool the transmission oil. As to wether or not it us adequate for towing, I cannot answer. Transmission oil temps can reach over 250 degrees when towing. That is why auxiliary coolers have been installed for towing. I can not attest to the capacity of cooling in towing situations. I will check my transmission fluid condition frequently after towing to monitor it for signs of degradation. Hopefully Ford engineers have given us an adequate system. Adding an auxiliary cooler will be quite difficult.

No, the Ford Ranger does not have a transmission cooler as such. It does have a heat exchanger that's unfortunately does not cool the oil.
