To change the filter on the transmission on the 2006 Ford Fusion You will first need to do a fluid change. To change the transmission fluid You will want to first make sure the car is level on the ground and then pop the hood open. Now locate the transmission fluid container, it should be on or near the transmission itself, and find the dipstick. Pull it out and wipe it clean, then put it back in and pull it back out. Note the amount of fluid it says is in there, and how much You need to put in to fill the container. Use a funnel and top of the container until it is full, or right at full. Being a smidge under is fine, but do not overfill. Now close up the container and You are good to go. The trick is that before You put the new fluid in, but while the container is low on fluid, You will remove the pan and pull the filter underneath. The filter is bolted on in two spots and will come off easy enough. Once You have done that finish the change as needed.

To change the transmission filter you will have to get underneath vehicle. You will see the transmission fluid pan and if you remove that you can get the transmission filter and change it.
