First, park the car and make sure all doors are shut and locked. Then, slot in Your key into the driver side door and unlock the car. Once it opens, quickly put Your key into the ignition slot, and set the cars ignition to the ON position. Once the ignition has been set to ON, make sure You dont start the car. You should know because all the accessories will turn on, but the cars engine wont. Once the ignition comes on, turn off the car and repeat the same process twice to reset the anti-theft. If You're having trouble, consult Your owners manual. It contains a detailed walk-through of the steps You need to take to reset the anti-theft on Your Chevy Malibu.

To reset the security system in a chevy malibu use the fob to unlock the door then with the door open hit the lock button and wait until the security light stops flashing, then press the unlock button on the fob again.

I own a 2001 Chevy Malibu. The ONLY method that has ever worked for me is to roll down the window, take key out of the ignition, get out, close the door. Reach in through the window and turn the key to 'half I'm (as opposed to full on). Then leave it sit for 10 minutes until the anti theft light stops blinking. Then reach in through the window, take the key out fully, then re insert key and start car while standing outside. Only thing that has ever worked.

I got a 2006 Malibu that the security light doesn't blink at all and stays lit the whole time. I tried to turn key to own, but no matter how long I leave it on; on the security light never goes off. What else can I try to program my transponder key?

First off you don’t need to stand outside if your car, or lock the doors. This will fix your problem when your car won’t start while you relax in the drivers seat & just wait. Let me start by saying I don’t have a fob so this is the only way I can start my Malibu when it won’t start. When your car won’t start you can see that the theft system light is flashing on the dash board. From the OFF position turn the key to the ON position. (NOT THE START OR ACCESSORY POSITION) Leave key in the ON position until theft light stops flashing which is about 10 minutes then turn key to the OFF position. Then start the car as normal. Your car should start right up if you did it correctly. You don’t need to do this three times.

No need to get out you can sit in your car. When car won’t start & theft light is flashing turn key to the ON position. Leave in ON position approximately 10 minutes you will know when to turn it to off position because the theft light will stop flashing. Once it stops flashing turn the key to the off position then try to start. It should start right up if you did it right. Door doesn’t have to be locked. There are also videos that show you how to do it. By the way they do have something you can do to fix this problem. Tried doing as they suggested to fix & it didn’t work. Good Luck everyone!

Having same issue now. Started to change headlight (passenger side) ended up being a fuse.Went to start it,,clicked a couple time, antitheft light flashed ,doors started locking and unlocking, then stopped. I unlock them with the button inside they locked by itself. Thought the battery went dead, tried using a jump pack, still nothing, didnt seems to have enough power. I cleaned cables, everthing ._. Unhooked battery put in on charge, have the jumper on charge. I think having someone jump me did it last time after being locked out of my car 4 hours after work. I had the key,,it wouldnt open the driver side door and only door that had a key hole. Almost froze to death trying to get in,, couldnt feel anything by the time i got in trunk, pulled the safety latch, pushed the seat forward, crawled to the front seat,,,,,,and you know thispart of the story,,It Wouldnt f*****g Start!!! Excuse my language, but this car almost killed me,,, the security guard seen me laying in the snow and ending giving me a ride home. So, i think its the key, ignition , or the wire for the radio. I say that cuz the antitheft system is ran from battery, to lock, to ignition, to the radio,. Im thinking its a red with black stripe wire. Its like its draining the battery to quickly and the key doesnt fit the locks and ignition properly,,,seems like the ignition keeps getting bigger and bigger. Kinda like that hat in that one movie._lol I pulled the radio, getting ready take the battery off charge and hook it up, if that doesnt work getting a jump. If that doesnt work taking fuse for the radio and headlights out to see if it starts,,, has anyone notice a couple things in the fuse box under the hood? Two of them on the far right,a row of 4, both tops ones have power going to them when they shouldnt? And the ignition slot is without a fuse but has been starting this whole time without? I guess im going to take them fuses out to, kinda makes me think they messed up the wiring or fusebox or everything, jamesrobert6979@gmail.com heres my email if your seeking the answer cuz i think im onto something

I done all of this yesterday...... Unhooked the battery , done key thing . Mine went as far as saying theft attempt , and my problem was my key battery . (2014 Malibu). My key has a lil plastic thing pops off on the bottom on the back side . So check your keys before doing any of the above

Hey Pete,, im not a mechanic but id try unhooking the battery for for a hour or so, maybe check all fuses first. Test the battery and charge it while its unhooked from the car. I had a post right above yours and that solved mine,,, and if that doesnt work google it and search the problem on youtube video._ good luck

2004 chevy malibu classic I paid 290.00 for a new ignition module. It did not fix the problem. I had the car towed to the shop a second time to get another ignition module replaced. They put another ignition part in for 140.0 that I did not ask for. The alarm system red light still comes on, as the orange ignition module does/ When the alarm red light flashes, the car will not start. The 10 minute or so leaving the key in the on position has worked, when the alarm red light stops blinking, the car has started. Paying over 400.00 to have this properly fixed, and these lights stay on, really is disturbing. The car runs very good, for a 2004 with 99,000 miles on it. But what a hassle to have to do this 10 minute thing, after paying over 400. IDK
