To perform a check engine light reset on a 2004 Chevy impala you will need to disconnect the battery cables of the vehicle. Using a screw to cut all positive and negative cables. Drain the leftover power. Press and hold the car horn for about 30 seconds to drain any power from the vehicle's capacitor. Wait for the battery to be reconnected. You'll want to wait around 15 minutes for the error codes to be removed and the engine light to be switched off. Once that's done, you can go ahead and reinstall your car's battery cables.
