The change oil light in a 2012 GMC Sierra lets You know that the current oil is at the end of its life and needs to be replaced. If You have the service done at a mechanic or the dealer they will reset the light for You but if You do Your own work You will need to follow these steps to do it. First, You will need to turn the ignition on but do not start the engine. With the key in the On position You will need to slowly press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and release it three times within a 10 - 15 second time span. From there You will need to turn the key off and then You can fully start the engine to verify that the light has been reset.
