If the check engine light (CEL) has become illuminated on Your 2017 Hyundai Elantra, that means there's a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that the engine's control unit (ECU) has thrown, and it'll tell You why the light's come on. Just clearing it won't clear the symptom, and it'll likely come on again. You can take Your car to AutoZone and have them read You the code and clear it there, usually for free. You can also buy a scantool, or a bluetooth dongle that allows You to pair Your mobile to the OBD-II port and grab the code and then clear it. If You just want the CEL to go away (for example, if it was because of a loose gas cap or low tire pressure or something You know has been remedied, but the ECU isn't catching it), You can remove the negative cable on Your battery, and leave it like that for haLFAn hour or so. This will usually clear out any DTCs, but it'll also wipe out Your radio presets and other settings, so be prepared for that.

To reset the check engine light in your 2017 hyundai elantra vehicle, try disconnecting the battery cables for 10-15 minutes and then reconnecting them, or turn your ignition key to the "on" and then "off" position twice, followed by starting the engine and the light should disappear.

So what if you've been running the car for the past 4-5 month and the Check Engine light STILL has not gone off, what happens then. Suspect my info "got Erased".

If your issue is completely fixed it will correct itself, the system in place was to make it easy for the consumer
