The only way to shift the electronic shifter in a 2017 Ford Fusion without battery power, is to use a screwdriver to release the gear mechanism in the center console. Remember to block the vehicle's wheels, attach to a truck bed or set the parking brake to prevent accidents. Lift the plastic molding at the rear of the console to reveal a small hole on the back of the console's wall in the upper right corner. Insert the screwdriver into the hole to release the gear knob. All settings will illuminate. Press the side of the dial and move into neutral. This must be done within 5-10 seconds or the shifter will lock again. Once the tool is removed, the shifter will stay in the selected gear.

Open the manual shift compartment by prying open the plastic cover near the shifter and pressing into the hole to put the vehicle into neutral.
