In the event that there is a problem with the transmission in Your Ford Edge You will need to remove the transmission from the vehicle. Removing the transmission is a very difficult process and You will need a lot of tools to be able to do it. The first thing You will want to do is lift the vehicle off the ground to be able to access it. You will then need to remove the driveshaft from the back of the transmission. After that You can remove all the electrical and fluid lines from the transmission and set them aside. After that You will need to unbolt the transmission from the back of the engine. I recommend that You support the transmission as well while You are trying to remove it.

Alex you are unqualified to answer this question as is made obvious by your thinking that this vehicle is a rear wheel drive. It is not it is AWD (all wheel drive) and the Transmission is either removed with the engine attached by removing the entire front of the vehicle or removed from below by removing the Engine Transmission Cradle - supporting the motor with a cowl brace and then removing the detached transmission. Also(the motor is Transverse Mounted so that it is perpendicular to the vehicle as are all front wheel drive (FWD) and most AWD vehicles today. There are 2 axle shafts (drivers side and Pass. Side) and one rear driveshaft. Although you can perform this job without a hoist it is far beyond what anyone can do if they are not a professional Mechanic. BTW if anyone is getting this done have the Water Pump and Timing chains replaced at the same time as those require the engine to be removed. Yes that's right Ford designed this engine to have a non serviceable Water Pump in Vehicle and the engine must be removed to replace. Please consider purchasing from a manufacturer that has more compedance. WE charge an low avg. Of 3400.00 to do water pumps in these vehicles.
