Resetting the check engine light on Your Dodge Ram 2500 truck is an easy task. It will only take You about 3 to 6 minutes to complete. The first thing You will need to do is go to the front of Your vehicle, and open the hood. Use the available prop arm to hold up the hood safely. Locate the battery, at the front of the engine bay. You will need to remove the black cable, which is the negative terminal to the battery. Now, replace the cable, making sure nothing is loose or disconnected. Close the hood, and return to the driver's seat. Start Your engine, and look at Your dashboard. The check engine light should now be reset.

Open the hood, find the battery and disconnect the black/negative cable. Wait 20 minutes then reconnect the black/negative cable. The check engine light will be reset.

What if it did reset then you drive it down the road and it comes back

My Ram has two batteries so I disconnected both of them, let it sit for about a minute then hooked them back up. Turned the key on and the check engine light flashed for about 15 seconds then came on steady and remained that way. I tried this twice with the same results. Also tried removing the PCM fuse and turned the ignition key to the first position. Check engine light came on and flashed for 15 seconds then went steady and stayed that way. No luck.

Don’t know if I would do that. On my 2018 2500 replaced batteries less then 5 min. Lost all software updates to transmission. Then had the hard shift. Take bake to dealer to flash the transmission. Like the good ol days when trucks didn’t have computers.
