Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. Knocking noise may show up from the engine. You could experience poor gas mileage. Your oil needs to be changed out someday. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or so is a good rule of thumb. If you don't replace it, there will be problems with the engine.

To reset the oil life on a 2011 chevy malibu turn the ignition to the on position without starting the engine. Press the menu button on the turn signal lever to scroll to the vehicle menu. Scroll up and select remaining oil life by using the thumbwheel. Press and hold the set/clr button until the screen changes
