In most cases, if the gas cap warning light comes on in a 2010 Dodge Avenger, simply tightening the cap will fix the problem. It may not go off right away though. Sometimes, the system needs to reset itseLFAfter it has determined that there is no longer a problem. It's important to note that You should fully inspect the gas cap. If it is cracked or damaged in some way, it needs to be replaced before resetting the light. If the light doesn't reset itself, You can use an OBD-II code scanner to reset it. Connect the scanner to the OBD-II port. You'll find this beneath the steering column. It looks very similar to a port You would find on the back of a computer. On the code scanner, select the "Reset" button. If the light comes back on again, either the cap is faulty or there is another issue that needs addressing.
