The oil light in Your 2010 Ford Escape is used to alert You when the oil currently in use has reached the end of its protection ability. It does this by keeping track of the mileage driven and the time since the light was last reset. To reset the light after You have changed the oil You will need to use the key to turn on the vehicles electrical system but do not actually start the engine. From there You need to press the Setup button until You see OIL LIFE x*x% HOLD RESET = NEW on the display. After that appears You will need to hold the Reset button for roughly 2 seconds and once You release it the oil life will be reset to 100%.

Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine). Press the setup button until the oil life x*x% hold reset = new" displays. Press and hold the reset button for two seconds and release to reset the oil life to 100% and "oil life set to 100%" is displayed
