To reset the 2004 Ford Escape anti-theft system You will start by removing the positive terminal cable from battery, place the key in the car and turn it to the on position, then replace positive cable, turn key off then back on to reset the alarm. This should reset the anti-theft device so that it will now be available to start the vehicle properly. Sometimes this can be caused by removing the battery or the battery being drained of power. This could also be caused by the pass lock sensor being faulty and this will cause the anti-system to go off and this will keep the car from starting. There are many different issues that could cause the system to alert and will most likely require some troubleshooting or an OBD diagnostic tool to pinpoint the issue.

Try removing the positive cable from the battery and then put the key in the car and turn it on to the on position. Replace the positive cable and then turn the key off and back on.
