Comfortable but leaks oil. The back seat needs more legroom. Four wheel drive doesn't engage. Gets decent mpg.
Good value if low mileage. Good family vehicle. Seems safe.

Good for parents and ages well.
Doors keep getting stuck. Really good other than that. It makes a ticking noise on occasion that's really annoying but it comes and goes. I love the way the car drives. It doesn't get the best gas mileage in the world and sometimes takes more oil than necessary, but for a used car that's as old as it is, it does its job. I would recommend a newer version of this car to anyone who has kids. It fits car seats wonderfully and leaves the kids lots of feet room.

I love my Escape, Ford makes safe, reliable cars!
My Escape is a great, reliable car. I've had no issues with it even though its a 2004 model. I never worry about breaking down or getting hurt. It's a good size, not too small, but not too big either. The seats are fabric and are very comfortable, and I love it. Gas mileage is better than any previous car I've owned. I love my Escape and if it ever dies, I will buy another one.

Used 2004 ford Escape, comfortable, enough space, reliable vehicle.
I purchased my 2004 Ford Escape used, It's been a reliable car for my family. Its comfortable and has enough space for traveling. The car is getting close to 300,000 miles and hasn't given me any major problems, and you can't say that about a lot of vehicles!

The 4x4 is amazing! Goes through the snow like butter!
I love the gas mileage I get on my car. It has plenty of room to transport people for a fun ride. My Escape is very comfortable. The 4x4 on it is awesome! I just struggle with my ac in the summer, and I have been having an oil leak issue that I haven't been able to figure out.

My car is great in all the years it is been running only had three problems. Runs good does not give me any problems on the road. Does not always start like it suppose to but it is only when it is cold. Gets me where ever I need to be. Is good on gas and runs very fine. Has a big tank so can travel long distance.

The alternator. I've replaced mine 3 times over the span of 3 years.... It's a common problem with these cars.
I love how spacious it is. And the way it looks, sporty and not to much of a mom car. But I've had lots of troubles with the alternator. And I hear that this is a common problem with these cars.

This car does great in the snow, was reliable until the millage got high, and is fun to drive
I've had this car for 12 years. It's the perfect size for me, gets through any snow storm with its 4 wheel drive, and can hold a lot of stuff for how small it is compared to other suvs.

I think the vehicle is lucky.
Constantly having problems with brake pads and having to replace them. The vehicle has a lot of miles on it due to being a daily driver to and from work every day. It is our most reliable vehicle. Other than that, I do not have any other complaints about the vehicle. It has lasted this long.

It is my first car, and would recommend it for any first time drivers.
My car has a lot of problems. I am putting more money into fixing it and repairing, than the car is even worth. My brothers owned drove it before I did, and I cannot afford to buy a new/used car right now. Overall, I have had a lot of great experiences in that car and have made memories in it, as well as have had long adventures.

Others should know that my car is not the best car for gas efficiency.
My 2004 Ford escape is comfortable, and a perfect size for just my husband and I. However, since it is older we do occasionally have some problems with replacing hoses and tubes from wear and tear. Otherwise the car has run great for the past 6 years that I have had it and it gets us around nicely with just enough comfort and space. We would like to start a family soon so we will be looking for something larger in the next few years.

Problems with the Ford Escape car 2004.
So I have a Ford Explorer and this car is overall a good car, except my right back door sticks more than the average backdoor and the rubber on the back right hand door comes off all the time if a heavier set person gets into the vehicle. But aside those two factors the cars great, and I usually do not like Ford cars.

Simple but reliable is a ford escape.
My SUV was great until 120,000 miles. After that everything started going. We put in over $2500 to fix things. Before that, it ran great. It is a very reliable truck just plain and boring looking. It does it is purpose to be more roomy than a standard car.

The 2004 ford escape limited edition.
My vehicle is experiencing an oil leak, has a small chip in the windshield, and has minimal rust. The stereo is not the factory one. It is an aftermarket. I do love the feel of the ride of it, even though it would be better with newer tires. The seats are comfortable. It has plenty of interior room. I don't like that you have to put the seat belt on otherwise it makes a dinging sound till you put it on. I like that it also has a port to charge things or to plug things in when we go camping. The car came with two sets of mats. One set is carpet and the other is rubber with areas that would catch the water from your shoes when it is raining or snowy. I love that it has 2 anchors for my granddaughters car seat, that makes me feel much safer when she is in the car with me, which is often. It has child safety locks that can be used on all 4 the doors and for the windows in front.
accountCircle Jen B on January 4, 2021

2004 ford escape from a mail carrier's perspective.
I deliver mail out of my 2004 ford escape on a very rural route. It is a durable vehicle with few problems. Being in southwest Virginia, we have snow storms and this vehicle has performed very well in the snow. The only downfall is the relatively small amount of ground clearance. There is an abundance of cargo space, especially when the rear seats are folded flat. The gas mileage is decent, averaging about 15 miles per gallon on a very stop and go route.

Great car, minor setbacks.
I really love the size of my SUV, it is not too big or too small, it is perfect for me and my dogs. I have had to have standard engine work done on it and the most annoying part is that they usually have to take the engine out completely to get to things that are in need of repair or needing to be checked, like the alternator or a set of coils. Overall it is a great car, very sturdy and it has decent gas mileage.

Depending on Year of Escape, depends on what kind of Money you will spend in a short period of time!!
At times it just will not start, doesn't matter what time of season it Is!! Engine's are bad in this era of Escape, they are not good for long periods of traveling, poor fuel mileage!! Other than it didn't cost most to purchase, the upkeep is terrible!!

I am a committed Ford owner. I love the style of the Escape, allowing for 5 passengers and cargo, or drop the back and you have a large cargo area. The gas mileage is terrific. I appreciate the size, big enough to feel comfortable and safe but small enough that it is easy to maneuver

It is an all around great mid size SUV.
I have had overall success with this vehicle. It is great on gas given it has a 4 cylinder motor and front wheel drive, but the vehicle lags the power for Its size a times. Overall a great car. Comfortable seats, back seats even recline. Features a sunroof, power windows, airbags and more. 2004 Escape. The cup holders and center boot are convenient.
I love this vehicle because I am comfortable in the driver's seat. The controls to make that possible are easy to reach and get the right setting for me. The back area is great for luggage, groceries and Christmas Trees. My Grandkids like my car, and to me that is important. Some of them borrow it from time to time. The CD player was a great addition and the radio works well. The side mirrors are controlled from inside and for me that is great. You must be tall enough to step up into the vehicle.

The only problem I have had with my ford escape so far, is there is a small hole in one of my oil hoses. Other than that, it is an absolutely wonderful car to drive. It has the perfect amount of space to be an everyday car, or one to travel in. Navy blue 2004 Ford Escape.
I prefer this body style over the newer Ford Escapes. I feel like it comfortably fits 5 people with plenty of room. The cargo space is large enough I even was able to place my bike inside. The roof rack is awesome and works really well for hauling my two kayaks. I've had some problems with the radiator and transmission early on but in ten year of having this car its been very reliable. Excellent in the snow especially with the 4 wheel drive. The only downfall in the lack of technology in this age of car. I'll be needing to upgrade soon.

I have had problems in many different kinds of areas including the muffler, tires, windows, and various engine problems. Rock solid car that is very reliable, especially for families.
It is a very sturdy car. Ford did a nice job of designing in safety and comfort. Reminds me of the old Jeep grand Cherokee. This is a little more refined with cloth seats, carpet and door panels. The Jeep had a lot of plastic, vinyl and rubber matting. Nice space for carrying a dorm-room of gear. Back seat folds down flat. The last time I had to move furniture, I was amazed at how much you can pack in there. It is easy to work on the engine and suspension system. However, it tends to rust out the wheel arches.

It's works well if you take care of the car right and do the right maintenance on it. People need to understand that no matter the age of the car it will run well.

Great reliability and durability!
My Ford Escape is great! Its reliability is unmatched when compared to past cars I have driven. I am up to 60k miles, and it still runs like a dream. Don't believe the stereotypes about fords! If I could do it all again, I would buy this exact car again. I would suggest it to anyone, and I have.

That it is tough on brakes and will not purchase another one.
The engine idles very rough. Uncomfortable on long drives. Great storage space and easy to enter/exit. Would not purchase another Ford Escape.

Great SUV for anyone that needs a bigger car.
Great on gas, drives like a car, last forever with regular maintenance. Has lots of legs room and storage space. Still has factory stereo, and all original equipment. The body is built to last, and I've never had a single issue. In 14 years, I've never used the spare tire and only the sunroof motor has quit.

Smokey gray sits up high.
My truck currently needs a tune-up but other than that it runs well, does great on the highway, and has enough space for me and my son. . . I also travel out of town to visit my dad 5 hrs. Away and for it to be a 2004 it does great. . . And I use it to load things and help friend and family move.

My ford escape has been a very sturdy and reliable car. The gas mileage is good and I mostly like the size and interior design. Sunroof and gray leather are my favorite features. The V6 engine could use more pickup
It is a trusty and stylish basic car that not only does the job but feels good to ride in

It is loud because the flex tube is broken.
I like how big it is. I also like being high above the road. 4 wheel drive is great. I use it all the time in the winter.

Awesome vehicle, I would highly recommend.
The performance of the vehicle exceeded all my expectations. It drives smoothly, very gas efficient, spacious, and it is not too big of an SUV and not too small like a compact car. It is very reliable, I have only had it for 6 months, I got it used from the dealership and it still drives like new. The sunroof in our model is amazing. My son loves to look up through it night and day. I do not usually like white cars, but this model in white suits very well.

Long lasting with minimum upkeep.
Very well made vehicle. Travels well, have put many miles on it and have only had to do minimum work on the car. Still looks good. Great family vehicle.

Reliable vehicle for sure
It is a wonderful vehicle. It has lasted for about ten to twelve years and I haven't had many issues.

Black pre-owned 2004 black escape with wear and tear.
It is reliable despite being an old vehicle. The only problems I have/had were the transmission, fuel pump, and alternator. Those have all been replaced. The only other problem I have is with the power steering. I believe there's a leak causing steering fluid to escape otherwise I have no problems with this aged SUV. I still want a new one though.
