The parking distance controller (PDC) on Your BMW X5 can be a useful safety feature to aid You in safely parking; on the other hand, it also introduces new components to Your X5 that can break or malfunction. Most commonly, You'll find an error message on Your dashboard that reads "AutoPDC malfunction" when it isn't working as intended -- often accompanied by "No parking assistance, please park unaided. Consult service center." Fortunately, resetting the system is relatively simple. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work. To reset, You'll need the key on and ignition off. Press and hold the parking button for ten seconds, then start the engine. If this doesn't work (which it probably won't), You'll need to consult a service center about having one (or more) of Your sensors replaced.
