To reset the Dodge def system You will need to reset the computer itself. There is not an official way to do this, so You will have to get creative. To start You need to open the hood of the truck and prop it up. Now find the battery under the hood. Locate the negative cable, while making sure to leave the positive alone. Pull the negative cable off. Now, wait for about 30 minutes to an hour. Once You have done this You can hook the cable back up. Now get in and start the truck. You should find that all of the lights and systems have reset, including the DEF. This is because once the charge goes out of the computer it does not have the ability to maintain its memory and so resets everything.

I just changed my DEF tank for a quality sensor which is epoxied to the inside of the tank unfortunately. Dealership told me over $3k to fix it and I bought the tank from mopar for $1900. I cannot get the engine malfunction indicator light or the DEF “see dealer” message to go away.

Had this happen coming out of mountains during a hunting trip hauling camper towing Jeep on a Sunday. Did not wait for limp mode to kick in. When the vehicle warned methat in 150 miles it will go into limp mode, I found a place to pull over and clean the injector nozzle and disconnected the negative cables while I worked. The nozzle is easy to remove and clean. Drove the rest of the 240 miles home with no issues. Will look intI pump now that I’m home.
