Limp mode is actually a safety measure that prevents the Dodge Ram 1500 from being driven if its computer detects a fault in the transmission. Engine speed will be reduced and the air conditioning or radio can be disabled. The "check engine light" will also be illuminated. To get out of limp mode, place Your vehicle into park. Cycle the key in the ignition to the "on" and "off" positions three times without firing the engine. Start the truck and limp mode should be reset. If this doesn't work, the problem might be related to a more serious issue like low fuELRail pressure, improper gear ratios, MAF sensor errors or a boost or emissions leak. Have the truck scanned for the diagnostic codes.

To get the Dodge Ram 1500 out of limp mode you need to stop and shift to park. Turn the car off and wait 30 seconds, now turn it back on and it will be out of limp mode.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 20 minutes or so then reconnect. I had code P0016 (OCV/VVT solenoid) and this got rid of it and got out of limp mode.

So my 07 recently starts going into limp mode for a few weeksevery now and then only. Kinda seems like when it gets wet outside n Idrive it is when it happens or the next morning it'llbe in limp mode. I'vereset it by taking terminals off and holding togetherfor 20 to 30 seconds, not minutes it worked first 2 or 3 times for me. Threwa cam POSsensor code. I have had an EVAPcode for about2 yrs now since Icut exhaust and gutted the cats which were getting too hot burning the heat shield mat under the cab lookingfor some cats to go back on it now. I cleaned throttle body which was terrible terrible bad But now it will only crank up run ruff for a few seconds then die. Won'tdo it twice in a row if Ilet sit then it'llrepeat the 2 or 3 second runtime but real ruff n die again. Soy is it not going into limp mode anymore is my question and is limp mode specifically made for issues with the tranny or engine also will cam sensor keep it from cranking up? Will throttle body sensor keep it from starting? There no codes cause Ideleted them when it started up, got to the gate and it died on me and that was it got towed into town bout5 milesdown the road I'mstumped and am pretty good at working on my own rides and toys but Icant seem to trace this problem down EXACTLLY. Have put 2 tranny'sin this suckerto in the last 90k milesIdrive er hard as hell asshell beat most other rams on the road, for a ext cab hemi 4×4 I'd say she'sN BEAST MODE DAILLY OR SHE WAS ANYWAY. OWN A BUSINESS AND GOTTA GETHER FIXED ASAP. HELP ME OUT THANKS

How can I get my truck fixed so it stops going into limp mode so much? I’ve had so many things replaced and it went two weeks without limp mode and now back again. Any help would be appreciated.

In response to Bruce, yes the crank shaft position sensor and the cam sensor will prevent it from starting and or running right. I just went thru this, replaced both them a fuel pump and battery. I was still getting minimal fuel from my fuel rail. Then a cap n rotor still nothing well it would start run about 30 seconds then die n not start again until it sat for 2 or 3 hrs then it would do it all over again. I too was stumped oh I'm sorry I have a 95' dodge ram 1500 two-wheel drive 5.2L. So someone had mentioned the ECU. I looked up bad ECM'S and found my answer. It wasn't throwing no codes I tried a soft reset then a hard reset tied the terminals together turn on headlights drain it completely. No different results. Ebay has ECU's we paid about $85 for mine I'll let ya kno after I put it in.

2008 dodge ram is in limp mode does not go into limp mode until I come to a stop and then takeoff I have replaced the evaporator I’ve replaced throttlebody battery fuel pumpmap sensor knock sensor plugs alternatorand probably a few other things. I forgot the name first the gas cap signal came on then the wind mode. Can anybody help figure this issue out I get a lot of things saying it could be the transmission but I have never had a problem with the transmission.
