In order to reset the ECU in the MINI Cooper R56 You will need a 13mm socket and ratchet wrench. A trim removal tool and rag are also recommended. First lift the hood and find the battery located in the left-hand corner. Remove the battery tray cover using the 13mm socket. You will also need to remove the weather stripping. Disconnect the negative terminal for at least 15 minutes which will perform a soft reset on the ECU. Reconnect the terminal, fit the weather stripping back in place, and reattach the battery cover. The Check Engine lights should now be off upon starting the car.

To reset the ECU MINI Cooper r56, you start with the ignition key, but in the off place, press and hold down the reset odometer button with one hand. Switch the ignition key to location 1 (first click) with the other hand when keeping the button down. The computer is going to have a number and the word "TEST."

I totally agree. I've just replaced the clutch on my daughter's R56 cooper D. What a piece of C**P. All done, eventually, but everything was difficult to get at, seized on and almost impossible to get off - AND back on - and now it won't start. It cranks, but won't fire up. EWS errror, which only a BMW/Mini garage can reset apparently, for god knows how much. Still looking for a reasonable price solution. Anyone have any ideas?

Got one here now that I'm working on. Someone diagnosed the Starter was gone. Power as it should be to Starter Wires and not crankin over. Replaced the Starter and it still won't crank over. Did a Diagnostics Check and the Scan Tool picked up 37 Codes. Narrowed the Detrimental Codes to a Module under Dash Pad above Steering Column. Must be 75 Dash Screws to remove on this POS to gain access to the Module.🙄 I've worked on a few of these Mini's and they are nothing but a Clusterf**k of f*****g BMW JUNK!!!
