The Toyota Tundra's "distance to empty" calculation is automatic, based on driving conditions, fuel level, and intake. Unfortunately, there is no way to reset it, though removing the negative terminal from the battery for 15 minutes or longer can sometimes force a relearn and recalculation. However, more often than not, You'll find that the recalculated value is the same as the original. The distance to empty indicator can be a valuable tool when deterMINIng how long You can last before the next fill up, but as You've seen, it can sometimes be a bit inaccurate. Therefore, You should always keep Your fuel tank above one quarter, so You're never stranded in an emergency situation. Take it from me, distance to empty is a convenience, but not a guarantee.

In my 2016 Camry when new and I filled up the tank it said that I had420 miles to empty . 6 years later when I fill up it shows 320 miles . What fixed it was that I disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes while replacing with a new one . Once I connected the new one the Distance To Empty started reading correct as when the car was new !
