Hyundai Sonata Hybrid batteries are designed to last a long time. Many will be good well into and sometimes beyond 150,000 miles, though some fail before then. Typically, hybrid batteries last 10 to 15 years. Hyundai tested its Sonata Hybrid battery. It lasted up to 300,000 miles and battery degradation was MINImal. 2012-2019 models came with a lifetime hybrid electric battery warranty. If Your Sonata Hybrid lithium polymer battery fails, Hyundai will replace the battery. They will also cover the recycling costs for the old battery pack free of charge to the original owner. This warranty is non-transferable.

What if you are the 2nd owner and purchased an extended warranty would the battery be covered?

Our 2014 Sonata Hybrid battery just died less than 9 years. Now the struggle is to actually find a OEM battery. Most are aftermarket and/or refurbished. Not an authentic Hyundai part.

My Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid 2017 model lasted just 14,000 miles and 5 years after I purchased it. The replacement is covered by warranty, but it took from July 31 to Oct. 20 to get it replaced. In the meantime, I had to rely on others (my spouse) for transportation. After 2 months they offered to reimburse me for a rental car, but some people online said they did not get reimbursed, and I did not want to carry that much on my credit card for montly rentals that I might not ever be paid for. I may sell it. I'm uncertain.
