Despite conventional wisdom, the amount of lubricating fluid a vehicle requires is not really based on how big the car is but rather the size of the engine. As the Q7 contains a V6, there are more cylinders that require lubrication. Along with maintaining the specified amount/type of oil in the engine, You should also use a fully synthetic blend. These formulations are superior to conventional ones as they are purer. Their purity contributes to an internal combustion environment with a MINImal amount of caustic chemicals which could degrade the metals that compose the block.

The Q7 comes with several engines, you need to know this before changing the oil as it will determine the type and amount of oil you need. The 333HP 6.8L gets 7.2 quarts of synthetic and the 258HP 6.1L needs 6.4 quarts of the same oil. Manufacturers recommend an oil change at least once a year to ensure the engine runs properly.
