The Rav4 is made entirely out of aluminum which contributes to it being light weight. Having a fairly light SUV is also convenient because it will get better fuel economy than one that is heavier. This allows Toyota to put fuel efficient four cylinder engines in. There is also a hybrid version of the Rav4 that would not work as well if the vehicle was much heavier.
