How much does a ford ranger engine replacement cost?

Your telling me your mechanic is charging you $5,500 dollars to rebuild your engine when a crate engine is $1,700 that's crazy. A ford taurus motor will fit down in a ranger. When my ranger engine gave out I went and bought a ford taurus motor for $250 and put it in my truck znd swapped a few parts over.The block and heads are the same on a ford taurus. I woulnt give anyone $5,500 to rebuild a motor.

$5500??? Remind me not to go to your guy. You can get a re-built 3.0L EFI engine for a Ranger for $1500. So you're telling me your guy is charging you $4000 in labor? Shouldn't cost any more than $2500

I think all you guys are missing the point...engines vary on these rangers,from diesel to petrol,n year ...yes people its 6500 fora long rebuilt 3.2lt diesel and 2500 for a rebuild kit..plus the extras...parts n labour,obviously petrol is cheaper...and speaking on behalf of us mechanics,we dont work for free...we work hard very hard...doin a 2013 ranger PX engine, diesel,as we speak

Anyone that is having to replace a ford ranger engine buy a 3.0 engine out of a ford taurus same year as the range. You will have a few things to change over but its a lot cheaper of a fix. The heads and blocks of a ford taurus is the same as a ford ranger. I currently have ford taurus heads and block in my ford ranger

I think a person should check out the prices on a master over haul kit. I have a 1991 Ranger Base model 2wd 5 speed 2.3 eng. Master overhaul kit is 350.00 it comes with new pistons,rings,wrist pins,main and rod bearings,oil pump,master gasket set,timing belt and idler. As far as taken the engine out shouldn’t take more than 2 1/2 hours. A day to rebuild it. Wow it sounds like some body is really disawnist about it for 5500.00. Or I can get a used one with every thing on the engine just button it up to the bell housing hook all the rest of the things and drive off with a 3yr unlimited miles at smith’s auto salvage for 850.00

My mechanic said that a newly rebuilt engine install for a 1996 ford ranger would be about $8,000 to $10,000. Very reputable shop. I believe it with the cost of parts these days and inflation. Still probably better than buying another truck.

Recently got pricing in Adelaide motor is $8200 from ford Melbourne injectors are$500 each turbo is $800 and install was about $6000

My 2014 ford ranger XLT dual cab 4x4 diesel just did a piston and most likely block. Going to cost about $26000, yes that’s right! New motor from Ford and new radiator hoses, turbo the whole works. My mechanic told me that buying a cheaper one and not from a ford dealer he won’t put it in. He is not affiliated with ford in any way. He said recond motors often have cheap non ford parts and can blow up in no time and no warranty even if the mob who sent the motor say it has. Going and getting one through ford does get a warranty and they have to replace almost everything. So expensive, yes. I thought maybe $20000 but it will be better than buying a second hand Ute for that price. Hard to take but that’s it. I’m in Western Australia
