When equipped with the 3.5-liter Ecoboost engine, the 2017 Ford Transit takeS5.58 liters (5.9 quarts) of 5W-30 motor oil. The 3.7-liter engine takeS5W-20 and the 3.2-liter diesel getS5W-40. All fluids mentioned are synthetic. The difference is how they perform at higher temperatures. However the 5W remains consistent, so they perform the same for cold winter starts. Ford recommends changing the oil in the Transit every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. However, Your exact maintenance interval may be much more frequent depending on Your personal driving habits and local environment. You will see an oil life light illuminate in the display of Your vehicle when it's time to schedule a service appointment. The oil life will need to be reset to 100% when this is done. The average cost to replace this fluid in the Transit is $150 to $180, including labor.

The Transit comes in several trims with different engines. To successfully change the oil you must know which one you have. The 3.5L EcoBoost needs 5.9 quarts of oil whereas the 3.7L uses 6 quarts. The 3.2 Powerstroke Diesel needs the most oil at 12 quarts. As you can see, it would be bad for your engine to get these mixed up and accidentally put only 6 quarts in the 3.2 or, try to put 12 into the 3.5L.
