The 2001 Ford Explorer takeS4.7 liters (5.0 quarts) of SAE 5W-30 engine oil. This is a very popular viscosity because it's suitable for a wide variety of engines in a broad range of climates. Ford recommends replacing this fluid in this SUV every 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever You arrive to first. However, if You live in a dusty area, do a lot of towing, or have a long daily commute spent at low speeds, You will need maintenance work more often. A few recommended SAE 5W-30 products include Castrol Edge, Valvoline SynPower, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Royal Purple, and Mobil 1. Always make sure You check and change the oil in the Explorer after the engine has had time to cool down to prevent injury. If You pay to have this fluid replaced, You can expect it to cost between $100 and $140, including labor.

In 2001 the V6 engine was 4.0 liters and the V8 engine was 5.0 liters, I would not believe any information in this post, instead check your owners manual.
