The 2005 GMC Canyon came standard with a 2.8 L 4Cylinder engine but they also made available an upgrade option for a 3.5L 5-cylinder engine. The standard engine will have a capacity of 5 US quarts while the larger 3.5L engine will need 6 US quarts for a full fill up. These numbers are when the filter is included. Both engine models are going to need to run on synthetic 5W-30 motor oil. You're going to need to have an oil change done every 7,500 miles to avoid causing damage to the engine. If You're going to do the change on Your own You can expect to spend between $30 and $45 in fluid costs.
