When equipped with the 2.8-liter engine, the 2006 GMC Canyon takeS4.73 liters (5.0 quarts) of SAE 5W-30 motor oil. The 3.5-liter V6 engine getS5.7 liters (6.0) quarts of fluid with the same viscosity. ThiS-TYPE of oil is very popular because it's suitable for a wide variety of engines in most climates. It reduces friction by lubricating moving components and it helps keep the engine cool. It also plays a role in performance and fuel economy. GMC recommends changing the oil in the Canyon every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever You arrive to first. However, Your maintenance interval may be more frequent, depending on Your local environment and driving habits. The average cost to have this fluid replaced in the Canyon is $120 to $150. Labor accounts for $30 to $50 of that total, so if You handle the oil change Yourself, You can save a bit of money.

The 2006 GMC Canyon take a little over 5 quarts with filter change. Park on a level surface. Drain the oil and change the filter. Add 5 quarts, start the engine and run for 30 seconds. Shut down wait 30 minutes and check the level.
