As specified by the manufacturer, the 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 HD 6.0L v8 engine has an oil capacity of 6 quarts. SAE 5w-30 full synthetic is the preferred oil for the truck and You can replace the engine oil and filter every 5000 - 7500 to ensure that Your engine is at its best output. If the oil does not change, the oil will lose its viscosity and will not adequately lubricate the engine's internal parts, such as the pistons and cylinders. Depending on whether it is traditional or synthetic and the brand/quality of the oil, the price of oil will range from $5 - $10 per quart. If You refill the oil, make sure that You also replace the oil filter.

The 2007 Sierra has several engine options, and thus different oil capacities depending on the engine. The 4.3 has 4.5 quarts, and the V8 engines have 6 quarts.
