The 2008 Hyundai Elantra useS4.2 quarts of SAE 5W-20 oil. Hyundai recommends using synthetic oil when You do have to change it. Oil comes in two major varieties, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is engineered in a lab to give You better protection over the moving components in Your engine compared to conventional. Synthetic also lasts longer meaning that You will only need oil changes every 7,500 miles compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles when You use conventional. You should check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full. You will also want to inspect it for signs of debris or burning as that can damage Your engine permanently.

The 2008 Hyundai Elantra oil capacity is 4.0 liters (4.23 US Quarts). For better fuel economy, it is recommended to use the engine oil of a viscosity grade SAE 5W20,5W-30 (API SJ, SL / ILSAC GF-3 or above). However, if the engine oil is not available in your country, select the proper engine oil using the engine oil viscosity chart.
