The 2008 Subaru Outback useS4.2 quarts of oil in the 2.5L 4Cylinder and 5.5 quarts in the 3.0L 6 cylinder model. Subaru recommends using synthetic oil any time that You have to change it. There are two main types of oil that are on the market these days, conventional and synthetic. Conventional is made from petroleum and has been around for decades, synthetic is newer and engineered to give You better wear protection and longer life. This means You can go 7,500 miles between changes with synthetic compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. You should check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is free from debris and signs of damage.
