The 2009 Chevy Equinox useS4.5 quarts of oil with the 3.4L V6 engine and 5.5 quarts the he 3.6L V6 engine. Chevrolet recommends that You use fully synthetic SAE 5W-30 oil whenever You need to change it. There are two main types of oil on the market these days. There is the older conventional style of oil which is made from refined petroleum. There is also a synthetic oil that is engineered to give You better wear protection and longer life. This means You will need to do less frequent oil changes. You should make an effort to check Your oil at least once a month. You will want to make sure that it is properly filled and free from any signs of debris.

The 2009 Chevrolet Equinox with the3.4L V6 engine uses 4.5 quarts of full synthetic oil; while the 2009 Equinox with the 3.6L V6 engine uses 5.5 quarts of full synthetic oil. Either way, it is recommended that it be 0W-30 (Below -20 F) or 5W-30 (Above -20 F), depending on local weather.
