Changing the oil on Your Ford Explorer requires locating the drain plug and oil pan underneath the car to release oil fluids by unbolting. Lift the vehicle's front end with at least two jack stands and unbolt the oil pan with A5/8th socket wrench to drain. It is found on the driver's side of the vehicle. Replace the filter by unscrewing the old one and priming the O-ring of the new filter with a small amount of 5W-30 engine lubricant, before re-inserting. Unscrew the engine compartment oil reservoir and fill with 6 quarts of fully synthetic 5W-30, using a funnel. Start the engine and let run for 20 minutes. Observe vehicle to detect leaks and proper operation.

To change the oil on a ford explorer you will need to locate the drain plug, remove that, allow the oil to drain, remove the oil filter, and replace that. When the oil has been drained replace the drain plug with a new washer, and then fill oil from the top of the engine until full.
