Replacing the shift solenoid in a Ford F-150 is a fairly complex procedure and You will need to drain Your transmission in order to access it so be sure to have new fluid on hand to refill it. The steps once You have it down though are fairly straightforward. First You will need to drain Your fluid using the drain plug on the side of the transmission. After that You can remove the side cover that is on the transmission that covers the fluid container. With that gone You can access the solenoid. You will want to disconnect the wires from the old solenoid and then connect the new solenoid to the existing wires. Refill the transmission with fluid and You should be good to go.

Make sure the vehicle is turned off and place chocks behind the wheels. Locate the fluid compartment attached to the bottom of the transmission, place an oil pan beneath it. Remove bolts that secure the fluid compartment and let the liquid drain into the pan. Remove the fluid container from the transmission with a screwdriver. From here you'll be able to see the solenoid area. Unplug the wire from the solenoid, and then remove the solenoid. Apply some transmission fluid to the new solenoid and then install it. Wipe down the transmission fluid container and then replace it.
