If Your door ajar sensor in Your Ford Explorer is always on then the most likely reason is because it has debris on it that makes it think it is open. I recommend first trying to spray the sensor with some WD40 and allow that to clean off the sensor. If that does not work then it is most likely that the sensor has failed and will need to be replaced. Replacing the sensor is fairly easy and should cost under $100 even when done by a mechanic. When Your door ajar sensor fails it will not let Your vehicle's alarm system arm itself, and it may keep Your cabin lights on which can drain Your battery overnight.

You can disable the door ajar system in the ford explorer by unplugging the module located below the dash.

Disable the plug on the back gate in order to disable the door ajar alarm on the ford explorer. If inaccessible, a module may be located beneath the dashboard.
