The sunglass holder in a 2012 Toyota Highlander can be a difficult thing to fixBecause it is a fairly fragile piece of equipment. The sunglass holder rotates down out of the ceiling on Your vehicle and it is spring loaded. If one of those springs fails then You will need to replace the entire unit. It is possible to replace just a spring, but finding the parts for that is difficult and it is more labor intensive than just replacing the entire assembly. To replace the whole sunglass holder You will need to open it and remove the screws that hold it in place and then use a pry tool to pry it loose from the ceiling and remove it from the vehicle.

If your sunglass holder will not stay shut, there may be an issue with the sunglasses being in the way or the tiny spring that holds the latch may have broken.
