Despite seeming like a daunting task, it's actually relatively simple to install side steps on your Ford Ranger. You'll need a small handful of tools and hardware, the latter of which should come with your side steps if you purchase them new. You'll need to bolt a bracket onto the underside fRame of your truck, and then the arms of each side step bolt into that. It's recommended that you use heavy duty hardware, as you don't want any issues with the steps buckling or coming loose, especially at highway speeds. Luckily, there's a full tutorial available on YouTube, so whether you're an experienced pro or a total novice with body work, it shouldn't take you more than a few hours to have your side steps up and running https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3cRwiHHAdk .

Place the parking brake, put on your safety glasses and mount wheel shocks on the left front and left rear wheels. Jack up the right front of the vehicle and then place a jack stand next to the jacking point. Repeat step 2 for the right rear of the vehicle. Remove the running boards from their shipping boxes and set the right running board under the vehicle under the right side doors. Use a creeper, if available, and lift the running board up to the frame. Install the remaining support bolts and nuts and tighten the nuts firmly. Raise the right side of the vehicle off the jack stands and lower it back to the ground.
